Muscat: The Finland Oman School (FOS) has appointed Helena Ripatti as the Assistant Principal effective July 1, 2018, to join the school’s Principal Terhi Kerensky. Ms Ripatti holds a Master of Education degree from the University of Lapland with an emphasis on English and Special Education. She is also a qualified Special Education Teacher, trained in the University of Joensuu.

Besides her career as a special education teacher in various schools, Ms Ripatti was an area principal for over seven years. She was also instrumental in founding a new school in Finland, where she was the founding principal for over 15 years.

With her tremendous experience in founding a new school, implementing the Finnish curriculum, and managing people, Ripatti will bring real-world solutions to the context of the Finland Oman School in Oman and assist the school’s principal in contextualising the Finnish Curriculum in FOS.

Ms Ripatti believes the single most important contribution a teacher and an educator can make is to inspire kids to learn. “I am very excited to have this is a great opportunity to work with expert Omani and Finnish teachers who want kids to learn and to be successful in life,” says Ms Rippati.

The Finland Oman School is located in Halban, next to the German University of Technology (GUtech).

All class teachers have been recruited from Finland and joined the school in August. Currently, the senior management of the school, comprising the Principal, Terhi Merensky, the Deputy Principal, Sahra Al Sabti, and the newly appointed Assistant Principal, Helena Ripatti, are juggling different tasks to get the school ready for September.

The school’s building is currently being built and the construction is on track for the school year 2018-2019. Registration is still open and the team is meeting parents during the summer, Sunday to Thursday, 8am t0 5pm, and Saturday, 9am to 1pm.
